Holly North, a UX expert, friend and trusted colleegue contacted me about this project. She had started to flesh-out a new user experience for Transom, a showcase and workshop for new public radio based in Woods Hole, Cape Cod. Transom needed a designer who could join forces with Holly to elevate the brand and create a more intuitive reading and listening experience for Transom’s dedicated community.

Color Palette

The ocean blue and rocky gray color palette was inspired from Cape Cod’s shores where the company is based.

The Mobile Experience

The primary purpose of the Transom website was for reading articles, so creating a clean, user-friendly mobile was key. More than just stacking elements into one column for mobile, we considered the best way to navigate and filter content on mobile devices. We optimized the spacing and size of typography for phones, tablets and desktop so that visitors are given the best reading experience no matter what device they choose.

Great ways to discover content

Transom wanted to preserve the archive from their previous site. We created a better way for the readers to search and filter topics to get to what they are looking for faster.

Universal Player

Most articles had complimentary audio tracks, so we created a universal player so visitors can listen while they read. We kept readers busy by keeping related content within reach.
